Matt Murray, the foreign editor at The Wall Street Journal, made the following staff announcement on Thursday:
We’re very happy to announce that David Enrich has been named the Journal’s European Banking Editor. The title is a recognition of the superb reporting and leadership he has shown in covering the unfolding banking crisis there, a story the Journal has driven under his watch, as well as the import of the banking story in Europe in general. In his new role, David will still be reporting and writing, but also working more closely with banking colleagues in bureaus across Europe and with Dow Jones Newswires to ensure we are coordinating and covering all aspects of the crisis. He continues to report to Bruce Orwall in London, and work closely with Money & Investing.
David started his Dow Jones (and business journalism) career in 2003 as a reporter with Corporate Filings Alert in Washington, scouring SEC filings for tidbits of news. He moved to New York in 2005 to cover the banking industry for Dow Jones Newswires. In 2007, he joined the Journal as a banking reporter with a particular focus on Citigroup, just as the financial crisis was getting underway.
After more than two years covering Citigroup’s near-collapse, David moved to London to cover U.K. banks and regulation, a beat that has expanded as crisis engulfed Europe’s financial system.
