WSJ names desktop and mobile platform editors

Jennifer Hicks, the digital news editor at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

I’m delighted to announce two appointments to help lead our new digital platform team.

Darren Everson is named desktop platform editor and Lydia Serota is named mobile platform editor.

They will be responsible for ensuring that our journalism — in all its forms — has the highest possible impact across our digital channels. They will work alongside reporters, editors, visual journalists and the product, design and engineering team to drive our digital storytelling forward. Darren and Lydia bring a wealth of experience to their roles. The relationships they’ve built across the newsroom will be critical as we focus on deeper collaboration and coordination.

Lydia has spent the past two years as a deputy markets editor in Money & Investing, where she oversaw coverage of stocks and emerging markets. She helped run the London Hub between 2012 and 2015. She got her start in journalism at the Daily Californian at U.C. Berkeley, and worked as a news editor for Yahoo before joining the WSJ.com evening shift in 2007. When not in the newsroom, Lydia can be found on the tennis court.

Darren was previously the editor of Global Journal. In the weeks since the Asia and Europe editions ceased, he has helped lead the editing workflow transition for U.S. print and edited for the Review section. Darren joined the WSJ in 2006 as a Personal Journal reporter; he then moved to the nascent sports department in 2008, covering college sports and later becoming deputy editor. Before coming to the Journal, Darren was a sports reporter at the Daily News. He is a University of Michigan graduate, and he vows to help return the New York Media Softball League Trophy next year to 1211.
