Wall Street Journal financial editor Charles Forelle sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:
I’m elated to announce that Marie Beaudette is named Banking Editor of The Wall Street Journal. Marie will lead our team of reporters covering Wall Street banks, the banking industry’s broad reach into our economy and society, and financial technology and how it is changing money. (Send her your bitcoin tips.) This is a very welcome return home for Marie, a veteran of M&I with deft editing skills to match our most complex financial topics and essential experience managing and developing talent, our most precious resource.
Marie began her career with Dow Jones Newswires in 2004 covering bankruptcy in Washington. She ran the bankruptcy team between 2008 and 2013, a period that saw a bumper crop of corporate collapses, and moved to the Journal’s deals team in New York in 2013. As deputy deals editor, she shepherded some of the deals team’s most difficult—and finest—work, including deeply reported stories on SunEdison, Avaya and Arconic.
Marie will join us from her very successful run as Assistant Managing Editor, Talent, in the Managing Editor’s Office, where she has transformed how we find and recruit our journalists, and has worked tirelessly to bring new faces and perspectives into the newsroom and to coach reporters and editors. She’ll continue to bring that experience to bear across the Finance group. Marie has a journalism degree from the University of Maryland.
Marie will report to me. Please join me in congratulating her on this exciting new job.
