WSJ hires two for WSJ Pro venture capital team

Nick Elliott, a managing editor overseeing private equity, venture capital and bankruptcy at the Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Tomio Geron, who was previously with Dow Jones VentureWire, is back in action  as a reporter in the San Francisco bureau for The Wall Street Journal’s VC Pro team. Tomio originally joined Dow Jones in 2007 but left for Forbes in 2011. Before that, he was a reporter at the Long Beach Telegram and Red Herring. Tomio came back to the bureau loaded with scoops and has unleashed a flurry of deals news. Tomio is a rare San Francisco native and lives in the city with his wife and one (“for now”) cat.

Alec Davis has joined as a news editor in the San Francisco bureau for The Wall Street Journal’s VC Pro team. Alec is a former long-time managing editor of MaketWatch, which is located on the same floor as the venture group in San Francisco, and he has returned to familiar faces doing double-takes, glad to see him back. Before joining MarketWatch in 1997, he was a news editor at DBC News/Data Broadcasting Corp. and before that at United Press International. He lives with his wife and daughter in San Francisco.
