Brent Jones, senior vice president of training, culture and community at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following on Monday:
Dear Colleagues,
I’m delighted to share that Robin Turner joins my team on Thursday as VP of Training, Culture & Community. Robin’s leadership efforts will focus on Dow Jones newsrooms, as well as working with leaders and others across company verticals to drive DE&I strategy into all aspects of our global business.
In this newly created role on the People team, Robin and the team we will build in the coming months will partner with colleagues to support our high standards, including diversity in coverage, and help to develop customized training, development and outreach strategies to enrich our culture of inclusion. She is a well-respected, experienced news media leader with a passion for improving culture. She also is known in the industry for her keen ability to identify and develop talent — and is a former employee of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones.
Robin’s career includes serving as a director of editorial diversity initiatives, copy desk chief, wire editor, publication editor, designer and copy editor at U.S. and international publications, including Politico, USA Today, the Journal and Ottaway Newspapers. In her most recent role at Politico, Robin designed and directed The Politico Fellows program and was a founding member of the organization’s signature journalism training institute, establishing a bicoastal presence in its ninth year. She also has designed retention models for the newsroom and has worked to increase diversity on teams and in news coverage; managed external and internal partnerships, as well as relationships with historically black colleges and universities.
She’s an industry diplomat, too, who has convened and collaborated with DE&I practitioners and newsroom leaders around challenging issues and national events affecting culture and the workplace. Additionally, Robin has guided emerging journalists as well as developed strong relationships and DE&I training and outreach for campus settings, such as American University, Georgetown University, Hampton University, Harvard University, Howard University, Morgan State University, Temple University and the University of North Texas.
Reflecting a strong global view and her multicultural background, Robin has trained and led programs to enhance education, literacy and improvement of health outcomes in Jamaica, Nicaragua, Uganda and Kenya. She holds a Master’s degree in Divinity and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science. She is also a certified DE&I practitioner and a member of NABJ, NAHJ and an alumna of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education. She, her husband, Ed, and two daughters enjoy global cuisines, family time and spoiling their two Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers.
Please join me in welcoming Robin back home to Dow Jones, as she helps us with this important work.
Brent
