WSJ hires The Real Deal’s Putzier to cover commercial property

Konrad Putzier

The Wall Street Journal has hired Konrad Putzier as a reporter on its real estate team.

Putzier is covering commercial property. He previously spent three and a half years as a reporter at the Real Deal, a New York-based real estate trade publication.

At the Real Deal, he reported on New York’s real estate market, with a particular focus on overseas investment, real estate technology and the intersection between real estate and global financial markets.

His investigations into the co-working Ponzi scheme Bar Works, George Soros’ investment in Cadre and the tricks retail landlords use to artificially inflate property values were part of a series of the Real Deal articles that won a general excellence award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. In June 2018, he won a New York Press Club award in the crime reporting category for coverage of Bar Works.

He also wrote The Long View, a bi-weekly column that dissects how global economic shifts impact the New York property market.

A native of Germany, Putzier is a graduate of Durham and Yale universities.

This is his second stint at the Journal; he interned in the Frankfurt bureau in 2013.
