WSJ hires Pulitzer winner to cover oil industry

Wall Street Journal Dallas bureau chief Jennifer Forsyth sent out the following announcement on Monday:

“I am pleased to announce that Daniel Gilbert is joining The Wall Street Journal to become a member of our team covering the oil industry.

“Daniel has been a staff writer at the Bristol Herald Courier in Bristol, Va. since December 2007. The newspaper won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, and several other national journalism awards, for Daniel’s series exposing flaws in Virginia’s system of administering natural-gas royalties. Before that, Daniel worked as a freelance writer in the U.S. Southwest, Mexico, and in Washington, D.C., for English and Spanish-language news outlets, including El Tiempo Latino, Reuters and the Christian Science Monitor.  He graduated from the University of Chicago in 2005 with a B.A. in international studies. He is fluent in Spanish and French and has experience in computer-assisted reporting.

“Daniel will work in the Dallas bureau for a month, starting Oct. 11, and then will move to our office in Houston.  We expect him to make an immediate contribution to our coverage of the oil industry and of the fallout from the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig accident in the U.S. and worldwide, complementing our team of Russell Gold and Ben Casselman.  Please join me in welcoming Daniel.”
