WSJ hires new EU financial regulation reporter

Julia Verlaine

Julia Verlaine has been hired by The Wall Street Journal to cover European Union financial regulation.

She came from Bloomberg News, where she had been based in Brussels for the past year working on the financial regulation team, responsible for covering rule making that materially impact investment banks and markets.

Verlaine was previously a reporter on the Bloomberg finance team covering the investment banking industry out of London. She joined Bloomberg in 2013 as a First Word FX reporter.

Before joining journalism, Verlaine was an associate for Barclays Capital, initially based in New York, covering U.S. hedge funds. She relocated to London in April 2011 to cover a number of UK-based hedge funds.

Verlaine is a Georgetown University graduate.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
