Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson made the following staff announcement on Tuesday:
I’m delighted to announce that Knut Engelmann has been appointed Managing Editor in Germany, with a wide brief to
improve our presence and profile in that country. Knut comes to Dow Jones having been the pre-eminent international journalist at Thomson Reuters, where he was most recently Wall Street Editor and Global Company News Editor.
Knut will oversee an industrious team whose coverage of Germany’s role in the eurozone crisis has been outstanding and has itself had a profound impact on the unfolding political debate. In this newly fashioned, seamlessly integrated role, Knut will report to WSJ and DJN European editorial heads Tracy Corrigan and Gren Manuel, and have a mandate to expand our influence in Germany and the German language.
Knut joins us after a 16-year stint at Thomson Reuters, where, among other roles, he was senior US economics correspondent in Washington. He has also run their news operations for Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Balkans out of Frankfurt, having started his reporting career at Bloomberg as a markets correspondent in 1994.
He is a well-educated chap, holding degrees in economics from New York University and University College, London. Please join me in welcoming Knut and wishing him all the very best in his new role.
