WSJ hires Maidenberg as reporter on breaking news desk

Micah Maidenberg

Micah Maidenberg has been hired by The Wall Street Journal as a reporter on the breaking news desk.

He started on Monday.

Maidenberg was previously a reporting fellow at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where he was part of a team that focuses on investigative stories.

The team collaborated with reporters at the Toronto Star to examine the saga of the Trump hotel and condominium project in Toronto. It also conductred a deep dive into Mexico’s use of catastrophe bonds for the Los Angeles Times. And for Foreign Policy magazine, he traveled to Guyana, to report out a piece about the country’s forthcoming oil wealth.

During the summer of 2017, Maidenberg was a James Reston Reporting Fellow at the Business Day section at the New York Times.

He earned a Master of Arts from Columbia in May 2017.

Between 2012 and 2016, he worked as a staff reporter at Crain’s Chicago Business, working on a team to produce the award-winning “Reckless Abandon” package of stories in 2013.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
