WSJ hires editor for CFO Journal and Risk & Compliance Journal

Kimberly Johnson, editor of professional products at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following email:

NEW HIRES

Jack Hagel, Editor- CFO Journal & Risk and Compliance Journal 

Jack comes to us from the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, where he spent six years as an editorial director overseeing management accounting coverage for the association’s publications, which include the Journal of Accountancy and Financial Management, plus several e-newsletters.

Earlier, he was an editor on the metro desk at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., a role that followed several years as the newspaper’s commercial real estate reporter and columnist during boom and bust cycles.

Jack began his career with The Associated Press, serving stints in the news cooperative’s Boston, Detroit and Providence, R.I., bureaus. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Virginia Military Institute. Jack is based in New York and reports to me.

Catherine Stupp, Reporter, WSJ Pro Cybersecurity

Catherine joined us in July from Euractiv in Brussels, where she covered European tech policy.

Catherine began her career in journalism as a freelance writer in Berlin. She covered German politics, technology, energy and the start of Europe’s migration crisis, writing for the Christian Science Monitor, Inside Climate News, Al Jazeera and other publications.

Catherine, a native of Queens, N.Y. has a bachelors degree in German and liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College and a master’s in comparative literature from Free University Berlin. She is fluent in German and has intermediate knowledge of Spanish and French. Catherine is based in New York and reports to CIO Journal & Pro Cybersecurity Editor, Steven Rosenbush.

Katie Roof, Reporter, WSJ Pro Venture Capital 

Katie joined our Pro VC team in San Francisco in May and hit the ground running with several scoops. Katie previously covered VCs and startups with aplomb for Techcrunch, where she scooped us enough to force our hand and bring her aboard.

Katie was also the creator and host of “Equity,” a popular Techcrunch weekly podcast on deal-making in the startup ecosystem. She’s also worked as a reporter for Fox Business and The Deal.

Katie holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, and is also a graduate of UC San Diego. She reports to Pro Venture Capital Editor, Alec Davis.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
