WSJ hires Carpenter to cover personal finance

Julia Carpenter

Julia Carpenter has been hired by The Wall Street Journal to cover personal finance.

She previously worked at CNN Business, where she covered the intersection between gender and money.

Carpenter also worked as a social media editor embedded within The Washington Post features section, where she plots audience strategy for special projects and brands in arts criticism, lifestyle, pop culture and more.

She also ran The Post’s Tumblr, and she pitches in with social strategy for multiple Post brands. She also worked with audience engagement and user-generated content and in The Post’s many ancillary communities, such as the Facebook group associated with our veterans’ issues series, “After the Wars.”

Also at The Post, she was a co-creator of  the Pay Up Slack community, a year-long project where they invited women in tech to share their experiences with work and money.

She is a University of Georgia graduate and interned for CNN and Elle magazine while she was in college.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
