WSJ expands digital experience team with Bowers

Becky Bowers

Chief product and technology officer Louise Story of The Wall Street Journal sent out the following announcement:

All,

I am excited to announce that Becky Bowers will become our first embedded Strategy Editor working within the Programming Strategy group. She will be located in Washington and remain an important part of Paul Beckett’s leadership team. Becky is well positioned to help us develop strategies, audience insights, technology resources and new ways of storytelling with the bureau and to help us listen from the ground up.

As deputy economics editor for the last three years, Becky helped drive coverage and manage a team of 15 to 20 reporters. She guided the relaunch of the Real Time Economics brand as a newsletter and calendar based on customer insights. She routinely updates the coverage strategy to respond to shifts in technology and audience needs, including for flagship news events such as the monthly jobs report. Reporters on her team are among the most data-savvy and tool-using of the newsroom. Last year, she helped to establish regional diversity councils for Dow Jones with other members of the inaugural Ignite women’s leadership program, work she continues to champion.

Becky joined the Journal in 2014 as an editor to build a content strategy and audience for the Real Time Economics blog, previously the Journal’s online showcase for economic news, analysis and commentary. She came to the Journal from the Tampa Bay Times in Florida, where she had worked since 2002 as a staff writer, wire editor, business graphics reporter and deputy editor in business and in politics — giving her strong experience in reporting and editing. She also wrote and managed digital operations for its fact-checking site, PolitiFact, and that experience as well as her years at the Journal have also made her a digital leader.

We have a half dozen other Strategy Editor openings to work with other coverage areas, so please email me if you are interested in learning more.
