WSJ editor: We will continue to cover big New York stories

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Matt Murray sent out the following announcement on Friday:

Dear All:

Today marks the last day of publication for the Greater New York section. As I said a few weeks ago, Greater New York has been a landmark for the Journal in many ways, bringing a gusher of energy and enterprise to the Journal from Day One, becoming a thriving pipeline for talent and serving our New York area readers a series of memorable and relevant scoops and stories–as we’ve seen right through this week with the team’s coverage of the mayoral race.

Editor Jim Fanelli, his predecessors, and the entire team–currently including Paul Berger, Leslie Brody, Ben Chapman, Joseph de Avila, Katie Honan, Kate King, Charles Passy, and Melanie Grayce West–deserve our thanks and admiration for the example they have set and the legacy they leave.

Under Emily Nelson and US News, we will continue to cover big New York stories for all our members. The trajectory of the city of New York and the state remain relevant and important for them. More broadly, GNY leaves us all an example to emulate–in the hustle of its reporters, the vividness of its writing, the engagement of its visuals and layouts and the connection it made with readers. That DNA remains central to The Wall Street Journal.
