WSJ editor leaves for Huffington Post

Emily Peck, management and careers editor at the Wall Street Journal, is leaving for Huffington Post/AOL to become managing editor of AOL Jobs, AOL Real Estate and DailyFinance.com.

The position is a new one at Huffington Post/AOL. She will report to Peter Goodman, a former New York Times business journalist.

Before becoming management and careers editor earlier this year, Peck was real estate editor for WSJ.com, where she oversaw the Journal’s real estate content online by supplementing the print coverage of housing and real estate in all sections of the newspaper by producing and editing interactive graphics, slideshows, columns and feature stories and by making sure content was SEO friendly. She also edited and maintained a real estate blog.

Peck, who has a master’s degree in political science from Columbia University, also worked five years for American Lawyer as editor of IP Law & Business, a monthly magazine covering intellectual property. She assigned stories to freelance and staff reporters, edited copy, coordinated art and shepherded the magazine through production.

The business news operations at Huffington Post/AOL underwent some turmoil earlier this year when the two merged editorial operations. A number of business journalists who worked for DailyFinance.com and other AOL business sites lost their jobs.

According to one business journalist approached by Huffington Post, however, the operation is aggressively recruiting business journalists from the Journal and other big-time places to beef up its business and economics content. In September, Huffington Post launched a small business news site.
