Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson sent out the following e-mail to the staff on Thursday:
“An 11-year veteran of Dow Jones Newswires, and an original hubbite, Drew was hired in 1998 as a stringer in Cairo for the wires. In 2002, he became managing editor of the energy service and, in 2005, was appointed deputy managing editor of the Dow Jones News Service, overseeing the corporate news beats and directly running coverage of financial services. On the Hub, Drew has been central to the improved coordination between the wires and the Journal, and done stints on the corporate desk, on Page 1, and in the marketing group. He will report to Matt Murray and Gabriella Stern. Please join us in wishing Drew all the best in his new job.”
Dowell is a 1989 graduate of Emory University in history and a 1994 graduate of Georgia State University in communications/journalism. He’s been at Dow Jones for the past decade.
