WSJ.com names new weekend editor

Christine Glancey, the deputy managing editor of WSJ.com, sent out the following staff announcement on  Friday afternoon:

We are thrilled to announce that Brendan Moran will become WSJ.com’s weekend editor, a new role charged with overall responsibility for building our weekend audience by driving news coverage and enhancing reader engagement. Adding Brendan to the current weekend staff allows us to be more ambitious with social media and video, and creates opportunities for new weekly items like live blogs, chats and better showcasing breaking news. He will be reaching out to the news desks and features editing teams to encourage ideas and contributions for our Saturday and Sunday readers.

Brendan joined WSJ.com in 2010 on the night news desk, moving last year to the Hub’s daytime team. He’s gained experience executing the real-time coverage for many of the biggest stories in the last year and led an effort to plan and coordinate a daily homepage strategy.

Before joining WSJ.com, Brendan was the executive editor at Current Publishing, a Maine-based chain of eight community newspapers he helped to build, working with the publisher to start or acquire five newspapers over the course of about six years. He oversaw two redesigns of the company’s website and the implementation of two content management systems. In addition to leading a team of editors and reporters, his daily duties there included everything from line editing and editorial writing to answering the occasional question or complaint of a reader. He had previously worked as a reporter at the Lewiston Sun Journal in Maine and the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire.

A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he’s an avid runner, who finished his first marathon (New York) in 2010.
We look forward to seeing more robust weekend offerings and encourage you to embrace the chance to work with Brendan on this critical project.
