WSJ.com looking for weekend editor

The following job position has been posted on the Dow Jones & Co. jobs page:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Weekend Editor for its WSJ.com platform, one of the fastest growing, global news and information websites that is the flagship of WSJ’s Digital Network, which reached 67 million readers in October.

We need a seasoned, digitally adept senior editor to help WSJ.com‘s digital audiences better engage with our journalism–a terrific, deep mix of features from Friday-Saturday-Monday offerings of the WSJ newsroom, coupled with global content from Asia and Europe editions, as well as breaking news, analysis and content MarketWatch, Barrons, AllThingsD and WSJLive.

This editor will bring a mix of gravitas and fun to manage how WSJ.com presents and juggles its offerings on weekends, keeping a close eye on audience behavior, breaking news, competition, freshness and a willingness and ability to surprise readers, with a lean-back and lean-forward mix of multimedia stories. Leveraging Social Media–to respond to and spread WSJ content–more effectively will be a key part of this role. The job requires working civilized day-time hours on Saturday and Sunday, where this editor will lead the real-time response to breaking news and be responsible for the flow and presentation on the site.

Qualifications:

–a creatively risk-taking editor and problem solver eager to take on a big, relatively independent role with accountability for news presentation judgment and weekend audience engagement

–proven news judgment and strong track record of news editing

–strong web-presentation skills and a keen sense of how to use video, slideshows and infographics, to present compelling, reader-friendly packages.

–deep interest in Business content but also WSJ’s Business of Life content areas

–ability to engage presentation demands from WSJ’s senior leadership with openness and a mix of data and news judgment

–demonstrate a quick learning curve for who and what matters on the Weekend at WSJ.

This senior editor will be part of WSJ’s Homepage team and will likely have a Friday-Tuesday schedule (negotiable on the week-day portion of this) and work closely with Raju Narisetti, editor of WSJ Digital Network, and Christine Glancey, Deputy Managing Editor of WSJ.com. We are particularly keen on using this role to add to WSJ’s diversity and global-mindedness.
