Lorraine Woellert
Joe Schatz, the editor of Politico States, sent out the following announcement on Friday:
Hi all,
Good news on the Florida front: Lorraine Woellert is moving over from the White House team to be our new Florida editor, guiding our policy coverage of the nation’s largest swing state as a new governor takes office and 2020 approaches. She’ll remain based in Rosslyn, and work hand in hand with editors here and our crack team in Florida, which includes Bureau Chief Matt Dixon, Alexandra Glorioso, Bruce Ritchie, Arek Sarkissian and Andrew Atterbury in Tallahassee, and Marc Caputo in Miami. Lorraine joined the POLITICO Pro financial services team in 2016 before moving onto the White House beat. As we searched for the right person to fill this position, Lorraine’s experience, approach and ideas stood out, and she jumped at the chance to work with the Florida squad – one of the most talented, aggressive, hard-working groups we have at POLITICO. Lorraine has covered campaigns, money in politics, the economy, courts, trade and more. She’s a graduate of George Mason University, where she and her friends launched the school’s first underground newspaper. After stints as a metro and local courts reporter in Northern Virginia, she moved to Richmond to cover the Virginia statehouse. She later covered Capitol Hill for The Washington Times, BusinessWeek and finally Bloomberg News, where she focused on oversight and investigations after the financial collapse. In 2008, she was embedded with Hillary Clinton and John McCain. She’s a National Magazine Award finalist and the winner of last year’s SABEW prize for real estate reporting. Lorraine will begin editing next week, and make the rounds in Florida in January.
