Kalev Leetaru writes for Forbes.com about how Wired magazine posted an article on Friday that has only been available to Apple News subscribers for the past four days.
Leetaru writes, “What would have been an otherwise ordinary Wired article has generated controversy because Wired chose to make this particular article available exclusively to Apple News users for four days, becoming available to regular readers only this coming Tuesday.
“Ordinary web users trying to access the article until then are met with the message ‘This story is being previewed exclusively on Apple News until Tuesday, September 22nd. Please check this page again at that time. To view this story in the Apple News app on your iOS 9 device, follow this link…’ Yet, Wired’s experiment with an Apple News exclusive is more than a simple marketing ploy, it has profound implications for the future of how we access news online and the increasingly fragmented and algorithmically-controlled future that will determine what we know about the world around us.”
