Wired hires five new staffers, including two senior editors

Wired editor in chief Nicholas Thompson announced Wednesday the hiring of several new staff members, including a new site director, social media director, and two senior editors.

Wired’s new site director is Scott Rosenfield. He joins from Outside, where he worked since 2014, most recently as digital general manager. At Outside, Rosenfield launched the site’s affiliate revenue program and expanded its newsletter strategy, leading to record revenue growth. At Wired, Rosenfield will be responsible for leading digital strategy and editorial revenue programs across Wired platforms.

He will report to Thompson and work closely with Wired.com editor Andrea Valdez. His first day is July 23 in Wired’s New York office.

Meghann Farnsworth is Wired’s new director of social media. She joins from Recode, where she served as engagement editor since 2016. Prior to Recode, Farnsworth worked at The Center for Investigative Reporting, where she was managing director of distribution, operations, and engagement.

At Wired, Farnsworth oversees all  social channels with a reach of 27 million people each month. She reports to audience development director Indu Chandrasekhar in Wired’s San Francisco office.

Anthony Lydgate joins Wired as senior editor. Previously, he served as editor of Elements, NewYorker.com’s science and technology section. Prior to that, Lydgate was an associate editor at Harper’s.

At Wired, he will work on narrative features. He reports to executive editor Maria Streshinsky and is based in New York.

Caitlin Kelly joins Wired as senior editor. Previously, she was senior features editor at Vice. Prior to that, she was an editor at NewYorker.com.

Kelly will focus on national events and politics through the lens of technology and innovation. She reports to Wired.com editor Andrea Valdez and is based in New York.

Also, Emily Dreyfuss rejoins Wired as senior writer after serving as a fellow at The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard for the past year.

Previously, Dreyfuss edited Wired’s national affairs coverage during the 2016 Presidential election. She has also edited Wired’s security and opinion sections in the past. In her new role, Dreyfuss covers how technology affects society, ethics in Silicon Valley, and the media.

She reports to Kelly and will relocate from Boston to San Francisco this fall.

“We’re thrilled both that Scott, Meghann, Caitlin, and Anthony are joining Wired, and that Emily is coming back,” said Thompson in a statement. “These are five of the most talented people in media right now, and they’re perfect additions to a place focused on building new businesses around high quality, deeply reported journalism.”
