Wired hires features editor, senior writer

Vera Titunik has been hired by Wired magazine as its features editor, while Jason Parham has been hired as senior writer

In addition, Ivylise Simones has been hired as design director, platforms.

Titunik joins Wired from The New Yorker, where she served as executive editor of newyorker.com. Previously, Titunik was editor, Sunday Business at The New York Times, story editor at The New York Times Magazine, and senior editor at Fortune. In Titunik’s new role, she will assign, edit, and help oversee print features for Wired.

Her first day will be July 17 and she will be based in New York.

“Vera is one of the best editors around. And one of the best people too,” said Wired editor Nicholas Thompson in a statement. “I’m thrilled to get a chance to work with her again.”

Parham joins Wired from The Fader, where he served as senior editor. Prior to that, he worked at Gawker, and has written for The Atlantic, The Awl, The New York Times Book Review, The New York Times Magazine, The Village Voice, and Wired In 2012, Parham founded the literary magazine, Spook. In his new role as senior writer, he will cover culture for Wired.

His first day will be June 26 in New York.

Simones joins Wired from Mother Jones, where she served as creative director. Before that she was design director of The New York Observer, and has also worked at The Village Voice, The Miami New Times, and Popular Science. In Simones new role as design director, platforms, she will oversee Wired’s digital design. Her first day will be July 5 in San Francisco.

“I’ve been a fan of Jason’s writing for years. He’s a superb stylist and thinker, and his voice will be a wonderful part of our cultural coverage,” said Thompson. “I couldn’t be more excited about Ivy too—she did an amazing job at Mother Jones, and I can’t wait to see how she redesigns and reimagines our digital platforms.”

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
