Wirecutter union reaches deal on contract

The union that represents journalists at Wirecutter have reached an agreement on a contract after two years of negotiating.

The agreement immediately increases salaries by an average of nearly $5,000 and sets a new salary floor of $59,000. It guarantees 2 percent to 2.5 percent in annual increases and eliminates the use of non-disclosure agreements in cases of harassment.

According to the union, the deal also secures strong diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments, guarantees just cause protections, sets a more equitable bonus structure, and expands the bereavement leave to include cohabitating partners.

The product review website’s staff staged a strike during its peak traffic period around Black Friday. Supporters raised over $42,000 to help compensate workers for missed overtime pay.

The site is owned by the New York Times.
