Wile promoted to ACBJ’s VP of content

Jon Wile has been promoted to vice president of content at American City Business Journals.

In an email to the staff, ACBJ CEO Whit Shaw wrote:

As head of a redirected national content team, Jon will be focused on editorial strategy and implementation, hiring and training, product assessment and development and related areas.
Since joining ACBJ as creative director, Jon has demonstrated time and again that he is both an outstanding journalist and a tireless advocate for business journal newsrooms.

Wile, who joined the company in 2012 from the Washington Post, where he was a senior news designer, was previously director of design and research for the Charlotte-based company, overseeing the design of products and working with the 43 individual business journal markets.

He has also done training in local markets on storytelling, design standards, workflow processes/efficiencies, hiring and staff structure.

Wile worked as a designer at the Detroit Free Press and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He is a Kent State University graduate.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
