David Plotz, the editor of Slate.com, sent out the following announcement to the staff on Wednesday:
Jessica Winter and I are delighted to announce that we’ve hired Jordan Weissmann to succeed Matt at Moneybox. Jordan is currently a Senior Associate Editor at the Atlantic, a confusing title since he doesn’t seem to associate or to edit. Instead he writes fantastic pieces about the economy, the labor market, inequality, unemployment, and education. Read them here. http://www.theatlantic.com/jordan-weissmann/
Jordan will be working in SlateNY, and starting on March 3, so we’ll have no gap between him and Matt. Jordan won’t be doing exactly what Matt did: He’ll focus on pieces and probably won’t blog, but we’re looking forward to the same astonishing level of intellectual acuity, curiosity, and fun that we’ve enjoyed during the Yglesias years.
We’re still hunting for at least one more writer for the business section, and possibly two, so please send Jessica your nominations.
In the meantime, please welcome Jordan. And Jordan, please continue a Slate tradition by telling us a little bit about yourself.
