Washington state paper to introduce new business section

June 20, 2010

The Yakima Herald-Republic in Washington state plans to introduce a new business section on Monday that focuses on trends, issues and profiles of those involved in commerce and the enterprises they run.

An announcement in the paper states, “While the Herald-Republic publishes local and wire-service business stories each day alongside other articles, the new Marketplace section will serve as a weekly landing pad for business news alone.

“Marketplace replaces the Your Money section, which was created in May 2009 to provide readers with useful tips and information on how to navigate financially through the Great Recession. We will continue to have consumer news in Marketplace, as well as some of the Your Money fixtures, including the popular Bruce Williams’ Smart Money and Sara Noel’s Frugal Living columns.

“Herald-Republic business reporter Mai Hoang‘s weekly Shop Talk column also migrates to Marketplace, where she will expand her coverage on retail business. (Hoang’s online Shop Talk blog will continue to be updated several times a week on our website, yakimaherald.com.)

“Joining Hoang in providing most of the local content for Marketplace is Erin Snelgrove, our consumer news and higher education reporter. The two reporters will share responsibility each week for the main centerpiece, which will provide a mix of people stories, business profiles and trend stories in the community.”
