Washington Post national editor Steven Ginsberg, deputy national editor Lori Montgomery and senior politics editor Peter Wallsten sent out the following message to the staff:
We are very excited to announce that Matea Gold is the new editor of our national politics enterprise and investigations team.
In her new position, Matea will play a leading role in some of The Post’s most high-profile stories, including the Russia investigation and the intersection of President Trump’s private business and public office, while also guiding our vetting of congressional and presidential candidates. She has already made a mark on this team, bringing her patented blend of journalistic sophistication, organizational rigor, and indefatigable cheer to the task.
Matea joined The Post in June 2013 as a reporter covering money in politics. Her work revealed the growing influence of billionaire donors such as the Kochs and the Mercers, and, last year, she helped expose Ivanka Trump’s global business practices. Matea came to The Post after 17 years at the Los Angeles Times and Tribune Publishing, where she worked as a national political reporter in the Washington bureau and a media reporter in New York, among other postings. She covered the 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns. Matea graduated from UCLA, where she served as editor-in-chief of The Daily Bruin.
Please join us in congratulating Matea on her new role.
