The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The Washington Post’s foreign editor Douglas Jehl, deputy foreign editor Eva Rodriguez, and foreign assignment editor Benjamin Soloway:

We’re thrilled to announce that Samantha Westfall will become editor of Today’s WorldView, the newsletter that illuminates the intersection between Washington and the world.

Sammy joined The Post as a summer intern and Bradlee Fellow in June, and she has already become a key member of the Foreign desk. As a writer and reporter, she has demonstrated speed, clarity and authority in tackling breaking news and quick-turn explainers. As a fill-in newsletter editor, she has delivered the smart curation and commitment to excellence that helps Today’s WorldView connect with readers around the world.

Sammy grew up in various countries, including Germany, Azerbaijan and the Philippines, where she began her journalism career as a reporting intern for the Philippine Daily Inquirer. She interned later for the Toledo Blade; when a 2020 internship at The Post was postponed by the pandemic, she spent the summer instead as a Southeast Asia reporter for Vice.

Sammy is a graduate of Yale University, with a B.A. in history and political science; she was also editor in chief and president of the Yale Daily News.
