The Washington Post continues to expand its successful 202 newsletter franchise into two new policy sectors: one newsletter will focus on cybersecurity and defense, the other newsletter will focus on technology.

The Post will hire four journalists to support this growth: one writer to anchor each newsletter, a researcher, and a deputy editor. The two new newsletters will lead with original reporting and analysis and feature a curated roundup of top stories from around the web and on social.

“Cybersecurity, defense and technology issues, including how technology companies can influence the political process and net neutrality, are areas of growing importance in Washington. These newsletters give leaders and influentials in those sectors news and analysis that’s tailored specifically for them,” said Rachel Van Dongen, editor of PowerPost at The Post, in a statement.

The forthcoming newsletters cap off a year of aggressive growth for the 202 franchise, which included the launch of The Health 202, The Finance 202 and The Energy 202 and a 300 percent increase in staff.

“Our newest three newsletters are consistently among the top 10 most-opened authored newsletters at The Post,” added Van Dongen. “Readers engage deeply with the content, reading from the original reporting and all the way through to the end of the email. ”
