Washington Post hires Siegel as general assignment biz reporter

Washington Post national economy and business editor David Cho, deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb and local business editor Daniel Beyers sent out the following announcement on Friday:

We are happy to announce that Rachel Siegel will join Financial as a general assignment reporter after a successful eight-month run as an intern on Local.

Rachel reported for Local’s transportation team where she profiled a bus driver for the District’s only service driving homeless individuals to and from shelters. She later moved to the local politics team, focusing on Montgomery County government. Over the past few months, she covered the county’s adoption of a $15 minimum wage, an end-of-the-year scramble to prepay property taxes, and the county’s outreach efforts to Latino immigrants as they grappled with Trump’s rhetoric.

Rachel began her internship after graduating from Yale where she majored in American history. She was a reporter and editor for the Yale Daily News and even traveled for the school paper to Singapore to report on LGBTQ activism at Yale’s satellite campus there. She previously interned at the Marshall Project, The New England Center for Investigative Reporting and the Dallas Morning News.

Rachel is a Dallas native and fourth-generation Texan but is no fan of the Cowboys (she cheers for the Green Bay Packers). She also is a devotee of reruns of “The West Wing.”
