Washington Post hires Sarah Ellison to cover media

Sarah Ellison

Washington Post features editor Liz Seymour, deputy features editor David Malitz and deputy features editor Mitch Rubin sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

We are thrilled to announce that Sarah Ellison, a writer for Vanity Fair magazine, will join The Post in January as a staff writer covering media and its intersection with politics, culture and technology.

Her appointment signals an expansion of The Post’s media coverage. She will join a distinguished team inside the newsroom including Margaret Sullivan and Paul Farhi in Features, as well as Callum Borchers on The Fix, that writes engagingly on media’s impact on people’s lives and public discourse as well as the key individuals shaping the field.

Sarah is a special correspondent at Vanity Fair and a frequent contributor to the magazine’s blog, Hive. She has written on a broad range of topics there, including Roger Ailes’s final days at Fox, a civil war within the NRA, and most recently, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s turbulent transition to D.C.

Sarah spent a decade as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal in Paris, London and New York before joining the magazine. She started her journalism career in the Paris bureau of Newsweek.

Her 2010 book, “War at the Wall Street Journal,” chronicles Rupert Murdoch’s unsolicited takeover of the Dow Jones news empire. The book was named one of Bloomberg’s Top 50 Business Books. Sarah has served as a contributor to CNBC and has appeared frequently on NBC, MSNBC, Frontline, and CNN.

Originally from Hanover, PA, she graduated with honors from the University of Virginia. She lives in Brooklyn with her family. She will work from New York starting Jan. 22.
