Washington Post director of video Micah Gelman, deputy directory of video Phoebe Connelly and senior video producer Tom LeGro sent out the following announcement:
The video department is excited to announce James Pace-Cornsilk is joining The Post as a San Francisco-based reporter/editor as part of our expanded technology team.
James has been a freelance video journalist in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past three years. His work already has appeared in The Washington Post in pieces produced with tech columnist Geoffrey Fowler. Additionally, his camera work has appeared on Netflix, HBO, A&E, Wired, “PBS NewsHour” and The Wall Street Journal. He has also shot for documentary projects funded by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the Sundance Documentary Fund and the National Film Board of Canada. His work has taken him to Kenya, France, the Middle East, Greece and across the United States.
James holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he wrote for the Daily Nebraskan. In 2016, he earned a master’s in documentary film from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. While there, he traveled to Kenya to co-produce a piece for “PBS NewsHour” and served as the sound recordist for the Academy Award-nominated short documentary “4.1 Miles.” James was also an intern for the investigative documentary series “Fault Lines” on Al Jazeera.
James is a native of Nashville and a proud member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. He lives in Oakland, Calif., and enjoys tinkering with his motorcycle. James starts April 8 and will spend two weeks in the newsroom before taking up duties in San Francisco.
