James MacGregor, the publisher of the Silicon Valley Business Journal for the past seven years, has been named the publisher of the Washington Business Journal.
Greg Baumann, the editor of the Silicon Valley paper, writes, “The parent company of both publications, American City Business Journals, announced the move Tuesday. MacGregor, 45, succeeds Alex Orfinger, who in September was promoted to executive vice president at ACBJ after 18 years as publisher in Washington.
“MacGregor, a native of Toronto, has been publisher of the Silicon Valley Business Journal since September 2007. Prior to that, he was advertising director of the San Francisco Business Times, a position he landed in 2002 when he joined American City Business Journals.
“‘We’re initiating a search for a new publisher in Silicon Valley immediately and will move as quickly as possible to fill this important position,’ Orfinger said. ‘During the search, the existing managerial team will fill in for James.’
“During his time at the Silicon Valley Business Journal, MacGregor piloted a redesign and restructuring of the news operation that focused on real-time digital publishing. That pilot became the model for similar relaunches at the company’s other publications.”
