Washington Biz Journal hires new fed biz reporter

Washington Business Journal editor Doug Fruehling sent out the following announcement to his staff on Monday:

Hi all –

Please welcome Carten Cordell, our new FedBiz reporter who started today. Carten joins us from FedScoop, where he was senior technology reporter covering federal agency acquisition, IT and cybersecurity issues. Before that, he was a senior staff reporter at Federal Times, where he worked with Jill Aitoro.

He also was online editor at Northern Virginia Magazine, an investigative reporter at Watchdog.org and copy editor/reporter at the Marietta Daily Journal in Georgia.

He has bachelor’s degrees in both history and journalism from Auburn University in Alabama and a master’s in journalism from Northwestern.

Carten and his wife, Kate, live in Falls Church and have two boys, including a new arrival in January.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
