Virginia paper brings back Saturday stock listings

The Hampton Roads Daily Press, which earlier this month cuts its weekly roundup Saturday stock listings, is now bringing them back after hearing from readers.

A short item in the paper Friday stated, “A few weeks ago, when we replaced the daily stocks with a Money & Markets page that focused on perspective, not listings, we disappointed a fair number of readers. And we heard from them in Feedback, on the phone and in person. In that direct input and in a follow-up survey online and by telephone, we heard repeatedly that a weekly roundup of the stock listings on Saturday would be a good substitute. So that begins tomorrow in the Business pages. And we’ll continue to run the Money & Markets page Tuesday through Friday.

“The Business pages, though, continue to be at the back of Sports, rather than inside the Local section. We heard callers’ views on that placement, too – mixed, but some distinctly negative – and we’re working on a way to address those concerns without losing the prominence and color we can now give to our excellent local business coverage, including photos. Thanks for the many constructive suggestions.”
