Virginia Business magazine publisher acquires remaining ownership stake

The publisher of Virginia Business magazine has acquired the remaining ownership interest in the publication that he didn’t already own for an undisclosed amount.

John Reid Blackwell of the Richmond Times-Dispatch writes, “Bernard A. Niemeier, who has been publisher of Virginia Business since 2007, bought full ownership of the publication from Virginia Capital Partners in a deal that closed Friday, the magazine reported Wednesday.

“Virginia Capital Partners, a Richmond-based private equity firm, had been Niemeier’s equity partner in the magazine since it was acquired in September 2009 from Richmond-based communications company Media General Inc., which started the magazine in 1986.

“Media General, which once owned newspapers and television stations across the country, was acquired in January by Texas-based Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. to form a new company.

“Virginia Business circulates 27,500 copies monthly. It also has a digital edition and a weekly commercial real estate newsletter.”
