Mónica Marie Zorrilla, TV business reporter at Variety, has left to finish her master’s degree at New York University.

She will be working for Bustle Digital Group’s Inverse as a television and movies reporter on a four-day schedule to accommodate school and occasional freelance work for Variety and others.

She starts March 21 with Bustle. She has been in the master’s program in journalism as a part-time student since Fall 2020.

Before Variety, she was a breaking news reporter at Adweek, covering brand marketing and advertising.

She was also a general assignment reporter, arts and culture and bilingual general assignment reporter at Billy Penn and AL DÍA New Media, respectively, both outlets based in Philadelphia.

Her writing for both publications led her to be distinguished as Philadelphia’s Culture Reporter of the Year in 2018 by the Pen and Pencil Club, the oldest operating press club in the U.S.

Zorrilla has a B.A. in English from Haverford College and is pursuing her M.A. in journalism from New York University.
