Darren Kloster of the Canwest News Service reports Tuesday that the Business Examiner, a monthly business newspaper in the Vancouver area, has been sold to a former publisher.
Kloster writes, “Nanaimo’s Mark MacDonald acquired the monthly newspaper that covers business issues on Vancouver Island in a deal over the weekend. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“The Business Examiner had been struggling to attract advertising revenue, recently combining its North and South Island editions and, in March, going from a bi-weekly publication to monthly.
“MacDonald, president of Nanaimo-based Invest Northwest Publishing Ltd. — which publishes a stable of four monthly business papers across the province, including Business Vancouver Island that competes with the Examiner, said he wants to bring the Business Examiner ‘back to its former glory.’
“It will operate as its ‘own separate entity,’ said MacDonald, adding many of the Examiner’s popular features such as Who’s Suing Whom and Building Permits and Business License Listings will remain.”
