Two writers leaving Arizona Daily Star

Reader representative Debbie Kornmiller writes that two business reporters are leaving the Arizona Daily Star to take positions in corporate public relations.

Kornmiller wrote, “Richard Ducote left April 5 after 21 years as a reporter and columnist and will work for Phelps Dodge Mining Co.

“Real estate reporter and columnist Joseph Barrios’ last day is April 25. He joins Tucson Electric Power.Â

“Both have a wry sense of humor and were able to write business stories that were meaningful to the average reader as well as the industry insiders — no easy feat.

“Business Editor Tim Steller posted this note on the Star’s intranet about Ducote: ‘Richard Ducote is going back to his roots. He was born in a Phelps Dodge-owned hospital in Bisbee, and now he will be collecting a paycheck from Phelps Dodge, working in a communications role at the Sierrita mine near Green Valley. As Richard told the newsroom, his dad would say ‘Why did I put you through college?'”
