Reader representative Debbie Kornmiller writes that two business reporters are leaving the Arizona Daily Star to take positions in corporate public relations.
Kornmiller wrote, “Richard Ducote left April 5 after 21 years as a reporter and columnist and will work for Phelps Dodge Mining Co.
“Both have a wry sense of humor and were able to write business stories that were meaningful to the average reader as well as the industry insiders — no easy feat.
“Business Editor Tim Steller posted this note on the Star’s intranet about Ducote: ‘Richard Ducote is going back to his roots. He was born in a Phelps Dodge-owned hospital in Bisbee, and now he will be collecting a paycheck from Phelps Dodge, working in a communications role at the Sierrita mine near Green Valley. As Richard told the newsroom, his dad would say ‘Why did I put you through college?'”
