Two Asian financial news sites in merger talks

Two Asian business news sites are holding merger talks, Talking Biz News has learned.

Shenton Wire, a leading Singapore financial news site, is in talks with The Insider Stories, an Indonesian financial news site, on a potential merger, according to a person close to the matter.

At the moment, Shenton Wire is mainly Singapore business news, while Insider Stories is Indonesia focused. Both have ambitions to be Southeast Asian business news providers.

Both launched separately in January 2018. The sites are still discussing the possible forms the deal might take, but completely merging into a single site is on the table. Details are expected to be hashed out over the next month.

Shenton Wire currently has two full-time and one part-time editorial staffer. Insider Stories has five editorial staffers.

Leslie Shaffer is executive editor at Shenton Wire. She is a former senior writer at CNBC.com in Singapore who also worked at Dow Jones Newswires/Wall Street Journal.

Shaffer declined comment.
