Bloomberg News reporter Matt Townsend has been named editor of its retail news vertical Checkout.
He will examine its coverage of how consumers buy and sell things and will also continue to do some reporting and writing.
Townsend has been with Bloomberg for more than 10 years, covering public retailers and consumer brands. In 2017, he added coverage of President Trump’s effect on business, including the global trade war.
He has covered everything from the bankruptcy and liquidation of Toys “R” Us, Tesla entering Home Depot, Paul Ryan puling the plug on the border-adjustment tax, the tax plan being pushed by FedEx CEO, Apple Pay, the short-seller who took down Lumber Liquidators and American Apparel’s dossier of dirt on its former CEO.
