Toronto Star hires two new business reporters

Christine Dobby

The Toronto Star has hired Christine Dobby and Richard Warnica to join its business news staff as reporters.

Akrit Michael of The Star reports, “Dobby, who will start at the Star in January, previously worked for the Globe and Mail and has more than a decade of experience covering telecom, corporate law and other sectors. While at the Globe she was part of a team that won a National Newspaper Award for its coverage of Huawei in Canada. She has also won three SABEW Best in Business awards.

“‘I believe in the power of business journalism to inform and hold corporations and governments accountable and I’m thrilled to be joining a team focused on those goals,’ Dobby said.

“‘I spent some of my early days as a reporter listening to the police scanners in the Star’s radio room, so it’s exciting to come back to the paper in this role.’

Richard Warnica

“Warnica, former senior reporter, feature writer and Toronto reporter at the National Post, will be joining the Star as business feature writer on Dec. 21.

“While at the Post, Warnica covered the pandemic, the Raptors championship, the fall of Rob Ford, and the rise of Donald Trump. He has been a finalist for a National Newspaper Award for international reporting and feature writing, and a finalist for a National Magazine Award for column writing.”
