Toronto Star cuts stock listings

The Toronto Star has cut its stock listings as part of an overall redesign of the paper, writes editor J. Fred Kuntz.

Kuntz wrote, “We have also opened up more room for stories by revising our stock listings, reallocating some of that space to business news or other parts of the paper.

“We know that some readers have no access to the Internet and cannot check their stocks online; or, even if they do surf the Web, some prefer to check their stock quotes in the paper over breakfast. So we continue to run all of the equities in the S&P/TSX Composite Index, which captures the vast majority of market capitalization on the TSX. Those 300 or so stocks should satisfy most in-paper followers, but we acknowledge that those who buy smaller, more exotic equities may need to turn to the Web.

“We encourage readers who haven’t already tried our online stocks guide to go to thestar.com/business and try it – you’ll find today’s quotes, sortable by name and more, with other helpful tools to filter the data and get the information you need. You will notice other enhancements to our overall website, which launched in a new format earlier this year.”
