Time is expanding its business news staff

Time magazine is expanding its business news staff, according to executive editor John Simons.

Emma Barker and Peter Allen Clark become Time’s lead business and technology editors.

Megan McCluskey will cover the business of social media and the intersection of internet-culture and fandom. The beat includes coverage of important developments and trends in social media industry—including at companies such as Facebook (Instagram and WhatsApp), Twitter, TikTok, Parler, Reddit and others.

Raisa Bruner will cover the many ways Generation Z influences business, commerce, and the workplace. The beat includes a deep consideration of the role young people are playing to transform the way businesses operate — influencing change from within, as workers and potential hires, and from the outside, as consumers and prospective customers .

Patrick Lucas Austin will cover all aspects of technology, as well as transportation with a special focus over the next year on the “energy transition.”

Belinda Luscombe, a veteran Time writer, will focus on big narrative tales, profiles and investigations that reveal something about large shifts and trends in the world of business.

Eben Shapiro will continue to write Time’s weekly Leadership Brief in addition to covering important and emerging leaders, business strategy, leadership and management.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
