John Tilak, the Canadian M&A and corporate governance reporter for Reuters based in Toronto, is leaving the news organization to focus on freelancing.

His last day is March 11.

“In terms of next steps, I will focus on some freelance projects,” said Tilak in an email. “This would include writing, editing and providing media consulting for publications in Canada and the United States. I plan to write on a range of topics, including technology, social media and shareholder activism.”

Tilak has been with Reuters for close to 13 years and in Toronto for more than eight years. During his time at Reuters, he has also covered the financial services, technology and media beats.

Tilak graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Madras in India and a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College. He also worked for Digital Media Europe as a staff writer.
