The Verge seeks to hire business news staff

The Verge, a tech news site launched in November by former AOL staffers, is looking to expand its business news coverage.

The site wants to hire a senior business editor and two editors focused on covering the exploding web, social and apps space.

Nilay Patel, the managing editor of the site, told Talking Biz News: “Our mission is to cover the news of technology and culture as thoroughly and authoritatively as possible, and properly covering the flood of innovation that now drives our society requires a firm grasp of both modern tech company economics and startup business reality. Technology is fast becoming the foundation of the American economy, and our goal is to provide the journal of record for that transition.”

The Verge was started by by Joshua Topolsky and Marty Moe in partnership with Vox Media and its CEO Jim Bankoff. The Verge’s mission is to offer breaking news coverage and in-depth reporting, as well as product information

Topolsky is the editor in chief. Patel spent four years as managing editor of Engadget, where he drew upon his background as a lawyer to report and explain complex legal situations in everyday terminology.
