The Markup has hired Corin Faife as a data reporter.
“He will be digging through the data to help us find stories,” said The Markup editor in chief Julia Angwin. “Corin has long worked as a reporter covering technology news.”
Faife is a journalist and researcher working on Witness’ Emerging Threats and Opportunities program, currently focused on coordinating responses to deepfakes, synthetic media and disinformation that correspond with the needs of journalists and human rights defenders around the world.
Before joining Witness, Faife worked as a reporter covering technology news in London, Montreal and New York, where he specialized in stories on AI, hacking, autonomous vehicles, cryptocurrency and policing. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, BuzzFeed, VICE, Gizmodo, CityLab, Ars Technica and more, and he has delivered citizen journalism training for marginalized groups in the UK and in multiple African countries.
He holds an MA from Goldsmiths University of London and a BA from the University of Nottingham.
