Tampa Bay Times business reporter Malena Carollo has been hired by tech news site The Markup as an investigative reporter.
She will start later this month.
Carollo has been covering transportation, energy and insurance for the Times.
Her reporting at the Times has included an auto lender taking advantage of Floridians, highlighted burgeoning neighborhood surveillance and prompted an investigation by the Florida Attorney General’s Office.
Carollo earned a master’s degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where she studied investigative and data reporting and practical digital security. Before the Times, she covered cybersecurity for the Christian Science Monitor’s Passcode section.
