The Logic hires Brownell from Maclean’s

Claire Brownell

Canadian tech and entrepreneurship news site The Logic managing editor Jordan Timm sent out the following message:

I’m very excited to announce that Claire Brownell is joining The Logic as a reporter.

Claire is currently the associate editor of reports and rankings at Maclean’s, where she used code to streamline the process of producing the magazine’s high-profile annual projects. When she started the job, Claire had just worked her way through a free e-book on the basics of the programming language Python. She put those skills to work writing scripts that format the data for the rankings with a few mouse clicks. She’ll continue to expand her technical skills as she produces data-driven investigations at The Logic.

Prior to Maclean’s, Claire was a reporter at the Financial Post, where she won numerous awards for her tech and feature writing. She covered the cryptocurrency frenzy of 2017, writing stories that uncovered the Canadian players behind Ethereum and the Bitcoin block size debate. She is very excited to dive into that world again at The Logic, as Bitcoin hits new all-time highs.

Claire has a keen understanding of the importance of journalism that sheds light on how money and power drive the broader knowledge economy in Canada, and she’s excited to bring her skills to bear on these issues for our readers.

Claire’s first day will be February 1.
